About AAU Learning Day

Every year in May, AAU Learning Day is held. It is a professional development event for all educators and other interested staff at Aalborg University, where one can gain and share inspiration related to teaching, education, and PBL practices. The content of Learning Day is related to learning, PBL, and teaching, and takes place across all three AAU campuses. This has been done in various ways in recent years, experimenting with both physical and digital participation across campuses.

The purpose of the day is:

  • To ensure that educators and other staff can share practices and experiences, and to create space for networking and reflection among educators regarding their own and their colleagues' teaching and PBL practices.
  • To organize professional development activities for educators at AAU, focusing on educational and teaching practices, as well as PBL practices.
  • To be a central and meaningful event in the educators' annual schedule and to serve as a competence-building activity in the educators' ongoing pedagogical development.
  • To ensure space for critical thinking and dialogue about teaching, education, and PBL practices.

In the course of the years, different organizational setups have been tried for Learning Day, and the task has been handled by various departments and individuals. The organization of the day was managed by Learning Lab until 2018, when HR Competence Development took over. IAS PBL has since taken over the organization in 2023.

Over the years, different configurations of organization have been tested, including various working groups appointed by DSUR with VIP representatives from different faculties. In 2022, it was decided instead to establish an advisory committee consisting of VIP representatives who could advise the administrative working group.
